Just think about how much better of an athlete you would be if you could jump 6 inches higher. Well, we know that you can’t really change your height but you can increase your vertical jump with proper training. It is time that you get serious about your game and work on your vertical.
How do you go about learning to jump higher? You have to have the right combination of leg strength and leg speed. The strength is very important for more reason than one. You need strong muscles and tendons to be able to absorb the intense impacts associated with jump training.
Okay so lets say you have ample strength, how do you get the speed? You need to train doing plyometrics, which are exercises designed with one thing in mind and that is to make your legs jump higher faster. How do they do this? They train the muscle fibers to fire at the same time.
To product power you want the muscles to fire as close to the same time as possible, and this is why some people jump higher than others.
What are some plyometric exercises that you can do to jump higher? You will become very familiar with plyometic boxes in any jump program. You will jump onto and off of them many times. The key is to only touch the floor for as little time as possible. This is what’s going to train your muscles to react faster.
The exception to the rule of only staying on the ground for the shortest amount of time possible is the jump squat. This one combines strength training and jump training so you stay on the ground a little longer.
